The Section 8 Voucher Rental Assistance Program is Federally funded and administered locally by HRDC.

The program is designed to assist low-income families to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market.  Eligibility for a Section 8 housing voucher is determined based on the household’s annual income, which may not exceed 50% of the median income for the area in which the family chooses to live.

There are several steps involved before receiving assistance with your rent.  They are:

  • Preliminary Application
  • Wait List*
  • Eligibility Appointment
  • Lease Briefing
  • Locating a suitable unit
  • Unit Inspection
  • Monthly payment to landlord**

*Wait time can be over 12 months
**The family will be responsible for the monthly payment of the difference between the total rent and the Housing Assistance Payment.

To apply for the Section 8 Voucher Rental Assistance Program or for more information, call 301-783-1880.
