HRDC operates two Adult Medical Day Services programs in Allegany County - one in Cumberland and the other in Lonaconing.  Anyone 16 years of age or older who has difficulty with two or more activities of daily living (ADLs) such as cooking, bathing, dressing and taking medications is eligible to enroll with the support of his/her physician.  The over-arching mission of adult care services is to assist people in maintaining or improving their quality of life, to help them remain in the community and to avert premature institutionalization.

Adult Care provides a small breakfast, a big lunch and a light afternoon snack.  All meals are approved by a registered dietician.  Special menus are available with doctor's orders.  Adult Care also provides safe and dependable transportation to and from the center and to most medical appointments.  We offer marketing, bowling, day trips, festivals, train rides, lunches at area restaurants, arts and crafts, bingo, card games, Bible study, talent shows and special entertainment such as singers, dancers and motivational speakers.  Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 8:15 am - 4:15 pm at each center.

Methods of payment for services range from medical assistance to a sliding fee scale for private pay.  If a client has medical assistance and is state-approved to attend Adult Care there is no cost for the program.  The Maryland Office of Health Services has grant funding available to help with the cost of the program if needed.  The Developmental Disabilities Administration also assists with the program if eligible and the Veterans Administration pays for the cost of the program two days per week for all qualified Veterans.
